Languages

Parent Note (Up)

My understanding of language is currently very limited. I only speak English fluently. Compared to the average Indian that is shockingly limited. I have increasingly been realising that language is a window to understanding the world around me. Each language brings its own set of phrases, sentence structure and way of thinking. The long and short of it is that I would like to learn more languages to improve my understanding of the world around me. The specific set of languages that I would like to start with are those which are most prevalent in my world and shape my own surroundings:

  • english - Of course this is the only language that I'm really fluent in. Even so, there is probably a lot more depth that I could go into, in order to appreciate the beauty and nuances of the language which I best understand and express myself in.
  • hindi - All across my country, this is the language which will prove to be most useful in basic communication and getting by. As with many Indian languages, there is huge world of literature and so much new age content to appreciate more deeply, when I learn it in greater depth.
  • tamil - I am supposed to be a Tamilian. It is about time that I learnt how to express myself better in my mother tongue.
  • kannada - Having grown up in Bangalore, and with the possibility of spending so much of my life in this city, I must learn to immerse myself better in the city's original culture.
